Drip Coffee “Starter Recipe”

Ratio: 1:16 (coffee:water)
Grind: Medium
Water: Filtered, fresh
Tip: Remove carafe promptly when done

Recommended roast: Medium to medium-dark for sweetness and consistency.

The Recipe

Use 1:16 as your default. Adjust strength with ratio; adjust taste with grind size.

Water Coffee (1:16) Good for
350g 22g 1 large mug
500g 31g 2 mugs
1000g 63g A full carafe

Two Easy Adjustments

  • Strength (ratio): 1:15 stronger / 1:17 lighter
  • Flavor (grind): coarser for bitterness, finer for sourness

If your drip coffee tastes bitter or weak, grind size and water quality often matter more than the recipe itself: Grind Size Explained and Water Quality for Coffee.

Recommended for drip:
Medium to medium-dark roasts stay sweet and forgiving on most home machines.
